Are more of your tamariki struggling?
More and more young tamariki are finding simple, everyday tasks hard. Kaiako tell us they’re seeing:
- Clumsiness and bumping into things
- Anxiety and hesitancy to join in
- Sensory overload in busy, noisy rooms
- Big behavioural outbursts
- More sedentary, screen-heavy habits
- Trouble sitting still and focusing
These are more common than you think, and they often have a neurological foundation. The good news: movement is one of the best tools we have to support them.

Professional development topics
Each session blends the “why” (what’s happening in the developing brain and body) with the “how”: simple, playful activities your team can use the same week.
Primitive reflex integration
How primitive reflexes should integrate, and what retained reflexes can look like in your room.
Brain development & crossing the midline
Movement progressions, the midline, and how they flow into self-care, early writing and reading.
Balance, coordination & the vestibular system
Why balance sits underneath coordination, focus and the ability to sit still.
Spatial awareness & proprioception
Body awareness, and why some tamariki bump, crash and squeeze their way through the day.
Screen time & anxiety
How screens may affect the developing brain and anxiety, and practical ways to reduce and support.
Cognitive development through movement
How movement builds the brain, and what happens when developmental stages are missed.
Not sure where to start? Polley will shape a session around what your team is seeing.
Woven through Te Whāriki
Movement isn’t an extra. It supports learning right across the strands of the early childhood curriculum.
- Mana atuaWellbeing
Movement that calms and organises the body helps tamariki manage their feelings and build healthy habits.
- Mana aotūroaExploration
Physical confidence and control of their bodies, so tamariki can explore, take on challenges and make sense of their world.
- Mana reoCommunication
Expressing themselves through gesture and movement, and laying the physical foundations for early literacy.
- Mana tangataContribution
Coordination and confidence that help tamariki join in, believe in themselves and play alongside others.
- Mana whenuaBelonging
Parent evenings connect what happens at the centre with home, so whānau are part of the journey.

What kaiako are saying
Amazing workshop that all kaiako must do. This is the stuff that we are never told about in our studies but is vital for child development!! So much valuable information about our primitive reflexes and supporting brain development which is a lot of what our tamariki are missing at the moment.
StephanieKaiako, Cromwell You were a fantastic presenter, clear, relatable, and genuinely inspiring. It’s safe to say we could have easily listened to you all night! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us. We really appreciate the time and care you put into the session.
GemmaWillows ELC Great workshop, we learned so much from Robyn! Wish we had more time as would have loved to have kept listening and learning. Valuable learning, I look forward to implementing the exercises in school. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

FAQs for centres
How long is an on-site session?
Sessions run for 1.5 hours, which is enough time to cover the why and get your team up and trying the activities.
How much does it cost?
On-site staff PD starts from $350 + GST. Travel for centres outside the Waikato is quoted separately. Get in touch and we’ll send a quote for your centre.
Do you travel to our area?
Yes. Polley works with centres anywhere in Aotearoa, from Waikato to Central Otago.
Can you tailor the session to our centre?
Absolutely. Choose one of the topics above, combine a couple, or simply tell us what you’re noticing with your tamariki and Polley will shape the session around it.
What do we need to provide?
Just a space where your team can get up and move. The sessions are hands-on, so comfy clothes are a good idea.
Can you speak to our parents too?
Yes. Polley can run a parent evening at your centre, on its own or alongside staff PD, so whānau and kaiako are working from the same page.
