1:1 sessions for parents

Kia ora, whānau!

Support that’s shaped around your child

If something doesn’t feel quite right, you’re not imagining it. Polley works one-on-one with you and your child to find out what’s behind the things you’re noticing, then gives you simple, play-based movement activities to do together at home.

Who it’s for

Is 1:1 right for my child?

Parents usually get in touch when they notice a few of these, at home, at kindy or at school:

  • Movement & balance

    • Walks on their toes
    • Bumps into things or seems clumsy
    • Finds it hard to balance
    • Gets car or motion sick
  • Reading & writing

    • Swaps their pencil between hands
    • Presses too hard or too lightly
    • Reverses letters and numbers
    • Struggles with reading
  • Focus & feelings

    • Finds it hard to sit still
    • Gets overwhelmed easily
    • Finds noisy, busy places too much
    • Has big feelings or meltdowns

Ticking a few boxes? These are more common than you think, and they often have a neurological foundation. You don’t need a diagnosis to get in touch.

What we work on

What 1:1 sessions help with

Every child is different, so every session is too. These are the areas Polley most often works on with families.

  1. Primitive reflex development

The early reflexes babies are born with, and what it can look like when they hang around longer than they should.

  2. Sensory challenges

For children who seek out or avoid noise, touch, movement or busy spaces.

  3. Behaviour & anxiety

Movement that helps calm and organise the body, so big feelings feel a little more manageable.

  4. Not quite thriving

When you can’t put your finger on it, but you know your child could be doing better.

and much more!

Your guide

Kia ora, I’m Polley

I’ve spent over 20 years working with children in early childhood and primary education. In 1:1 sessions I get to do what I love most: getting to know one child, working out what their body needs, and giving their parents the tools to help them thrive.

Sessions are relaxed and playful. Most of the time your child just thinks they’re having fun.

FAQs for parents

What ages do you work with?

From babies right through to primary-school age. The earlier we start, the easier it is to build strong foundations, but it’s never too late.

Does my child need a diagnosis or referral?

No. If something doesn’t feel quite right, that’s reason enough to get in touch. Many families come to us before, alongside or instead of other support.

How much does a session cost?

Every child’s needs are different, so get in touch and Polley will talk you through the options that suit your family.

Do I need to be there?

Yes please! You know your child best, and you’ll be the one doing the activities with them at home, so you’re a big part of the session.

Do online sessions really work?

They do. Polley watches and guides while you and your child try the activities together, so you learn exactly how to do them at home.

What should my child wear?

Comfy clothes they can roll, crawl and climb in. Bare feet are great too.

Is this instead of seeing a doctor or therapist?

No. NeuroMove sessions are educational and work well alongside support from your GP, OT, physio or other health professionals. If you have concerns about your child’s health, please talk to your doctor.
